Ged Test Chicago
Cook County Ged Testing
|
This article lists all GED® class locations and test centers in the Chicago IL area.
Illinois offers three options for high school equivalency (HSE) testing, the TASC, HiSET, and GED.
HSE testing gives adults who never graduated high school the chance to obtain an equivalent diploma.
GED testing must be done computer-based while the TASC and HiSET can be taken on paper or on a computer.
GED testing is done through four independent tests in these academic fields: mathematics; social studies; science; and literacy.
You can take one of the GED tests at a time but completion must be achieved within two years.
The HiSET and TASC have individual writing and reading tests, so five in total that can also be taken separately.
The GED is fully computer-based while the TASC and HiSET are available on paper and on a computer.
In Illinois, test takers must also pass the state’s Constitution exam if they want to earn their HSE diploma.

Lowered GED passing score
The minimally required score on each of the four GED subtests was dropped five points to 145 just two years after the new GED test was introduced. TASC and HiSET are scored in a different way. Check with a testing site near you which HSE test they use. A student can view his or her test results right after testing and transcripts are also available upon request.
Some students will need to take ESL classes before they will be able to study in a GED prep course and complete the GED test. This website’s free help (especially the Pre-GED Math section) will help these students very well to accelerate their study.
Can I take the GED online?
No, there is no online GED exam, and TASC and HiSET are not offered over the internet as well. Beware of fraudulent sites that offer the GED tests or the GED diploma online. Their papers are worthless! Testing takes place only at designated GED testing facilities where you must go in person. Online courses to get all set for the real thing can be a perfect solution for many students, though, so check out this website’s totally free GED video program, a great help to get ready for testing fast and improve your skills!
Studying online allows you to learn in accordance with your calendar and to benefit from our support, you don’t need to submit an email address or any other personal information. Just start to learn! Follow also our GED news pages to learn all about what’s going on in the world of GED (General Education Development). You can call one of the above-listed career centers and learning facilities to learn about their opening hours and visit them.
Often, an instructor or a volunteer can help you prepare for the four GED modules (independent subtests) that cover the academic fields of Math, English Language, Social Studies, and Science. Holding a GED will definitely enhance your life and financial health as GED holders are generally making some $9500 more annually that those who don’t have the diploma. Students with a GED have better careers and they can also sign up for an interesting college education!
Jobs with a GED
In the labor market of today, high school dropouts are lucky if they find any type of work at all. Over 80% of all American jobs require at least a high school diploma or similar. If people are not qualified, they will find it difficult just to pay their bills.
Going back to school is not an option most of the time, and going for the GED diploma is one of their few available alternatives. The GED was revamped to again become a real equivalent of a high school diploma and to be credible for employers and universities. The GED system is as close as it comes. The four independent GED modules (subtests) need to be completed within two years from the moment of your first registration and can be done in the English and Spanish language.
Your school board can provide you with info regarding job fairs and other events. The staff can also answer your questions about how to get financial help once you’ve secured the GED credential and if signing up for college is your mission.
